End of the academic year – Corpus Christi

The last day of the academic year was a very special celebration as it fell on the feast of Corpus Christi. Most of our families came to the 8.30am Mass which was sung in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament after all night Adoration. Mass was followed by a Eucharistic procession. Some of the girls from St Benedict’s scattered rose petals on the route and some of the boys were altar servers. It was very beautiful and good to see so many people there.

Afterwards, we enjoyed some time together on the playground; playing with balls, skipping ropes, frisbees, a bean bag game and on the swings; before it became too hot. Fortunately, uniforms had been amended for the day in view of the unusually high temperatures.

We were joined by all the Canons and Sisters for lunch together, and later shared cake and played games. The younger children enjoyed some board games and the older ones had some competitive games of Uno, which is very popular at St Benedict’s.

Then it was time for prize giving. The St Francis de Sales prize for the most merit awards, the St Thomas Aquinas Prize for academic endeavour and the Spirit of St Benedict Prize were awarded, along with an extra prize for dedication to serving Mass. Congratulations to the recipients.

We practised our singing before heading to church, where Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament was continuing. We lifted our voices in honour of Our Lord on this very special day and thanked God for all the blessings we have received.

It was a lovely way to end the year!

Our new home

When St. Benedict’s opened its doors in 2018, we were fortunate to have the use of some rooms and the hall at English Martyrs Church but our goal was to use the former school on the same site as St. Walburge’s. Unfortunately, this needed a lot of work to repair the effects of many years of neglect and make it suitable. Thanks to our benefactors and following a lot of hard work, we have moved into our new home.

We now have five bright and airy classrooms, a kitchen, new lavatory facilities and a large playground, complete with swings and a safe all-weather surface. Two of the classrooms share a sliding wall so we can make one large room if we wish. Everything is fire and safety compliant.

We would like to express our gratitude to our benefactors and all those who helped us in so many ways. We couldn’t have done it without you. We thought you might like to see what St. Benedict’s looks like now.
