Reminder: Monday 2nd November is All Souls Day. Low Masses for the Dead at 8.30 am and 12 noon; Sung Requiem Mass at 7 pm. DEDICATION FESTIVAL

Dear Friends,

Please find attached the newsletter for the Dedication Festival.

1. BISHOP’S VISIT & CONFIRMATIONS

We are grateful to the Right Reverend Michael Campbell, Bishop of Lancaster, for his visit to Saint Walburge’s to confirm 6 adults and 20 young people and to celebrate Pontifical Low Mass. Sincere thanks also to the Saint Philip Neri Choir, under the direction of Rosemarie Darby, and to organist Christian Spence and trumpeter Graham Hickey for the splendid music; and also to our dedicated volunteers who cleaned the church, prepared the beautiful flowers and organised the excellent reception. Certainly a day to remember — and a fitting way to celebrate the first anniversary of the creation of the Shrine!

2. ORGAN MASSES THIS WEEK

– Tuesday 29th September, 7 pm: Feast of S. Michael the Archangel

– Friday 2nd October, 7pm: First Friday Mass of the Sacred Heart

(These Masses are in addition to the normal 8.30 am Mass.)

3. WEDDING THIS SATURDAY 3rd OCTOBER, 11 am:

Please pray for Sarah Lawler and Richard Harris, who will be joined in holy matrimony. Richard and Sarah are recent converts, and were baptised at the Shrine at Pentecost.

Yours faithfully,

Canon Altiere.

17TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Dear Friends,

Please find attached the newsletter for the 17th Sunday after Pentecost.

BISHOP’S VISIT: This coming Sunday 27th September at 10.30 am we have the great joy to welcome Bishop Campbell, who will administer the sacrament of confirmation and celebrate a Pontifical Low Mass. Our friends the St. Philip Neri Choir are coming to sing sacred music by Elgar, Viadana, Byrd, Palestrina and Bruckner. Please consider inviting your family and friends to what will certainly be a memorable occasion. It also marks the first anniversary of the establishment of the Shrine.

Please note that there will be a 5K race in Preston that morning, so some roads will be closed. You may want to allow yourself a few extra minutes to arrive on time.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: If you can help prepare some food for the reception that will follow the reception, please contact Mrs. Maria Platt (). We are also looking for volunteers this coming Saturday 26th at 11.30 am to tidy the garden and prepare the church hall for the reception.

THANK YOU: To all the volunteers who made the Heritage Open Days last week-end such a success.

Sincerely,

Canon Altiere.

15TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Dear Friends,

Please find attached the newsletter for the 15th Sunday after Pentecost.

IMPORTANT NOTE

The weekday Mass (Monday-Friday) will now be offered at 8.30 am, with confessions at 8 am. Tomorrow, 8th September (Nativity of the B.V.M.), the additional Mass will be at 7 am.

St. Walburge’s will be pariticipating in the Heritage Open Days this Saturday 12th September (11.30 am – 2.30 pm) and Sunday 13th September (2 pm – 5 pm), with special guided tours. Please encourage your friends and neighbours to come visit!

Sincerely,

Canon Altiere.

12TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Dear Friends,

Please find enclosed the newsletter for the 12th Sunday after Pentecost.

Thank you to all those who came near and far to celebrate the feast of Our Lady’s Assumption, a feast traditionally known in this country by the lovely name of Lady-Day-in-Harvest, with the customary blessing of herbs and fruit. Thanks especially to the singers and servers, the organist and those who prepared the flowers and the social.

Please note that there will be confirmation class today (16th August) after Mass.

Sincerely,

Canon Altiere.
