Memory Project

87 years under the Shelter of the Dome of Home

The National Lottery Heritage Fund has restored Ss Peter and Paul & St Philomena’s Church, n.b. – and the church is open 8am until 8pm daily, for you to visit!

To complete our restoration project by June 2022, we are collecting memories from the last 87 years in New Brighton, since the church was built. Please share interesting, happy memories and photos of our town or church before 7th March 2022.

Memories will be archived in Wallasey Central Library, used in the second Edition of Ss Peter and Paul & St Philomena’s Church Guidebook entitled “87 years under the Shelter of the Dome”, displayed in various exhibition venues, online with the Williamson Art Gallery and Liverpool Museums and on Radio Merseyside.

Share your memories on this Public Group, or collect and post one of our postcards at Wallasey Central Library, Williamson Art Gallery, Vale Park Exhibition Centre, The Dome of Home Church and various New Brighton care homes involved in the project.

We will include first names associated with each memory, unless otherwise specified. If sharing photographs digitally, please use our dedicated Facebook Group or to supply contact email for copyright permission.

Additionally, our publicity poster provides a summary on how you can contribute. You can download this here and the Facebook group can also be reached on your Smartphone using this QR code:

Photography captures and retains memories for years to come, spanning across generations. Recollection can be inspired from an image beyond the subject. It can instigate conversation or thought of an era or special time. See our selection of postcards and photographs below as a catalyst:

With special thanks for photography and donated images from Ken Clarke, New Brighton Heritage Centre, Bernard Rose Photography (www.bernardrosephotgraphy.co.uk) and Barry Wade (Wirralshotsphotography) – images remain the copyright of their respective image owner and reproduction is solely at their discretion.
